For teachers

We’re careful about screens in the classroom, and so is Norway’s curriculum: in years 1–4, digital devices are to be used with particular care and must not dominate teaching. MathMatrix is mainly meant for a few minutes of practice at home. At school it can help in special cases, such as a pupil who needs more repetition than a lesson gives.

The short version

  • Covers 1×1 to 10×10, not the 11 and 12 tables.
  • A round is 10 to 12 questions and takes a few minutes.
  • No ads, accounts, purchases or links out of the app.
  • Collects no data and works offline.
  • Up to four profiles per device, in English or Norwegian.
  • iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. Free.

MathMatrix is coming soon to the App Store.

At home

Short practice spread over days and weeks helps the tables stick, and that fits best at home. If you’d like to suggest MathMatrix to families, our page for parents explains how to keep it short and relaxed.

At school

Some pupils need more repetition than a lesson can give. For them, a few minutes with MathMatrix can be one of several tools you choose, alongside other support. It doesn’t replace teaching, talk about numbers or concrete materials, and we don’t recommend it as daily screen time for the whole class. For practice with everyone, use the printable sheets.

If you do use a screen, what’s on it matters. Many children’s apps come with ads and nudges to keep playing or to buy. MathMatrix has no ads and no purchases, and a round is over in a few minutes. The boss fights are the only timed part, and they open only for tables a child already knows. If the time pressure is stressful, turn on Calm boss fights in Settings.

Privacy

The app never goes online, and the developer receives no data. Profile names, buddies and progress stay on the device, and there are no accounts or class reports. That’s a description of the app, not legal advice: your school and its data protection officer decide what assessments you need. The full text is in the privacy policy, and you’re welcome to email [email protected].

Installing on school iPads

If your school wants MathMatrix on some iPads, it can be added for free in Apple School Manager under Apps and Books and assigned to the devices through your MDM. Apple may ask for a payment method even for free apps. Apple explains the steps in Get licenses for apps and books.

Questions

Should pupils use it every day in class?

We don’t suggest that. A few minutes at home works well, and at school it’s best kept for pupils who need extra practice.

Can I see my pupils’ results?

No. Each child sees their own grid, but nothing leaves the device, so there’s no class report.

Is it based on research?

It uses well-tested techniques, like self-testing and spreading practice over time, but the app itself hasn’t been studied. See what the research says.

A calm extra, kept short

MathMatrix is free at launch, with no ads, nothing to buy and no data collected.
